Stonefish- Synanceia verrucosa

  • Scientific Name: Synanceia verrucosa

  • Habitat: Shallow coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific region; often found in coral reefs, rocky areas, and sandy/muddy bottoms.


🔍 Identification

  • Looks like a lump of rock or coral, covered with wart-like bumps and algae growth.

  • Colors range from mottled brown, grey, and reddish tones for camouflage.

  • Average size: 30–40 cm (about 12–16 in), though some can reach over 50 cm.


⚠️ Venom & Defense

  • Possesses 13 sharp dorsal spines capable of injecting venom.

  • Venom is extremely painful
