The Keyhole Limpet is a large marine snail found along the Pacific coast of North America. It is easily recognized by its flattened, conical shell with a distinct “keyhole” opening at the top, which gives the group its name.

Shape: Flattened, oval, and roughly symmetrical with a central apical hole (used for excretion and water flow).
Color: Shells are typically dull gray to brown, often encrusted with algae or sponges.
Body: The snail itself is soft-bodied, with a large muscular foot used for attachment and slow movement.

Distribution: Found from Northern California to Baja California, Mexico.
Habitat: Prefers rocky intertidal zones and shallow subtidal waters, usually on hard surfaces.
Can withstand wave action and exposure during low tides.
