The Hairy Blenny is an unusual Florida native with a broad head, expressive eyes and branching, hairlike cirri above the eyes and along the head. Its mottled coloration provides excellent camouflage among rockwork, where it spends much of its time perched or hiding in crevices.
Unlike many familiar aquarium blennies, this is a carnivorous species—not an algae eater. Offer a varied diet of mysis shrimp, chopped clam, krill and other meaty frozen foods. It can reach approximately 8–9 inches and may eat ornamental shrimp, small crabs or very small fish, so it is best kept with appropriately sized tankmates. Provide plenty of rockwork and secure hiding places.
