The darkfin hind (Cephalopholis urodeta) is a small, lesser-known grouper species that lives in coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific.
Coloration: Pale reddish to light brown body, often with faint spots or mottling.
Tail (caudal fin): Darker than the body — typically black or very dark brown, giving rise to its name (urodeta = "dark tail").
Markings: May show faint darker spots on body; occasionally a small dark blotch at the base of the pectoral fins.
Size: Small for a grouper — grows to about 20–25 cm (8–10 inches).
