The Banded Moray Eel (Echidna polyzona) is a striking, smaller-growing moray distinguished by its contrasting dark brown and cream-colored bands. Naturally secretive, it spends much of the day sheltered among rockwork and becomes more active when food is present or after the lights dim.

Provide a mature aquarium with secure caves, stable rockwork, and a tightly fitted lid—moray eels are powerful escape artists. This species primarily feeds on crustaceans and should be offered meaty marine foods such as shrimp, krill, crab, clam, and squid. Because it may prey upon ornamental shrimp and crabs, it is not considered reef-safe with mobile invertebrates. It is generally less likely to target healthy fish than many larger morays, although very small fish may still be at risk.
